Michigan’s emergency response system gained 21 newly certified emergency medical technicians (EMTs), who will join the front lines after graduating from a hands-on training program by Superior Air-Ground Ambulance Service of Michigan, Inc. This workforce development initiative equips and hires local residents for critical EMS roles.
Superior Ambulance, together with its affiliate Life Support Training Institute (LSTI), hosted a graduation ceremony Thursday at Corewell Health in Farmington Hills to celebrate two graduating classes from Southfield and Taylor. Each graduate has accepted a full-time position with Superior Ambulance, ensuring their training will immediately benefit communities across the region.
“Superior Ambulance is proud to partner with local leaders to train, hire, and empower people for careers in emergency medicine,” said Kim Godden, Vice President at Superior Ambulance. “By investing in local talent, we’re building a sustainable, community-based EMS workforce that meets urgent needs today and strengthens the system for the future. Every one of these graduates is stepping into a role that saves lives and supports our neighbors in their greatest moments of need.”

The ceremony was a reminder of the vital role these graduates will play as they bring their skills and dedication to Michigan’s EMS workforce.
In recognizing the graduates for their accomplishments, Dr. Diane Paratore, Medical Director of Life Support Training Institute, added, “I would echo a quote from Abraham Lincoln, ‘Next to creating a life, the finest thing a man can do is save one.’ Congratulations to our graduates!”
Through its “Earn to Learn” program, Superior Ambulance guarantees employment to all graduates upon successful EMT certification. Once hired, full-time employees are eligible for tuition reimbursement to advance their education — an incentive designed to reduce barriers to entry and support long-term career growth in EMS.
“A strong emergency response system is vital to community safety,” said David T. Woodward, Chair of the Board of Oakland County Commissioners. “We are so fortunate to have this amazing asset in our county. By training and hiring local residents, Superior Ambulance is saving lives, creating careers, and keeping talent in our region.”
Superior Ambulance and LSTI launched the Michigan “Earn to Learn” training program in March 2024 as part of their mission to grow homegrown talent and build a strong, community-based EMS workforce.
