In addition to routine BLS/ALS ambulance equipment, CCT vehicles may carry advanced airway management devices including video laryngoscopes, cardiac monitors with temperature and invasive pressure monitoring capabilities, ventilators, IV pumps, dopplers, portable suction, and additional medications (dependent on state and system protocols).
Our Team
The Critical Care Transport Team is staffed by Critical Care Paramedics and Critical Care Transport Nurses. Critical Care Paramedics have at least 3 years ALS experience and have completed a university-accredited critical care training program (CCEMTP, CCP). Transport Nurses have at least 3 years of critical care ICU or ER experience. All staff participate in an ongoing education plan to remain current in standards of care, are expected to obtain board certification, and are certified in ACLS, PALS, NRP, and Trauma.
Our Services
The Critical Care Transport Team’s ground ambulances are deployed throughout Superior Ambulance’s service area in Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. The CCT Team in Illinois is a “Tier 3” team staffed with Critical Care Paramedics and Transport Nurses. The Illinois CCT Team can also transport patients to/from Northwest Indiana. The Indiana & Michigan CCT Teams are “Tier 2” teams staffed with Critical Care Paramedics.
Critical Care patients can be transported via air or ground. Our “Tier 3” flight program is available for requests in Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. When unable to fly, our flight teams are able to respond by ground. Learn more about our flight program here.
Our Fleet
Superior Ambulance operates a fleet of Type I, Type II, and Type III ground ambulances.
The Critical Care Transport Team primarily utilizes new Mercedes Sprinter Ambulances.
