Superior Ambulance History

 

Vintage Ambulance and CrewIn 1959, accident victims in DuPage County, Illinois were transported to the hospital in converted hearses from local funeral homes.  However, upon arrival to the scene, the drivers often weren't trained to administer first aid to the victims.  As the demand for emergency response grew and medical technology advanced, David and Blanche Hill started Superior Ambulance, the first emergency ambulance service in DuPage     County, Illinois.

1968:  Superior Air Service is founded, providing air transportation to any place in the world.

1974:  Illinois Medicar is founded, Illinois’ first wheelchair transport company for wheelchair bound and disabled patients.

D Hill Jr.1979:  David Hill, Jr., a founding member and past president of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, continues to set high standards for the ambulance industry. Now operating 10 ambulances and contracting with municipalities and fire protection districts, Superior maintains excellent patient care with state-of-the-art equipment and services.

1981: David Hill, III, becomes president continuing his family’s tradition of setting the high standards in the ambulance industry.

1984:  Superior is the first ambulance company to enhance the Critical Care Transport program, providing ventilators, infusion pumps, and Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump services.

1991:  Superior is rapidly growing and strategically opens satellite stations near contracted hospitals to efficiently service our customers.

2000:  Superior surpasses Illinois state boundaries and opens four satellite stations in northwest Indiana.Vintage Ambulances

2000:  Superior elevates Critical Care Transport to a new level by incorporating nurses on board to transfer patients of all levels of acuity – eliminating the need for hospitals to send their staff on transports.

2003:  Superior opens it’s 22nd satellite station in Rockford, Illinois.

New building image2004:  Superior has over 1300 employees and continues to break the mold as a pioneer in the private ambulance      continuing his family’s tradition of setting industry.

2005:  Superior partners with the Henry Ford Health System in Michigan. and operations in it’s third state.

2006: Superior moves into it's new headquarters in Elmhurst, Illinois
