On Monday October 8, 2007 Superior Ambulance launched AIR MED 1, its first rotary wing aero-medical program ever. This marks the return of Superior to air ambulance service. AIR MED 1 is a Eurocopter BO 105 twin engine helicopter. It is one of the most used aircraft in healthcare and a proven workhorse. It carries a crew of 3 people plus patient. Its cruising speed is approximately 110 MPH and has a range of over 100 miles.
On Friday February 8, 2008 the second helicopter is launched into Superior Ambulance's AIR MED 1 program. With a fuel capacity 179 gallons and an average speed of 130 kts cruise our range is 340 nautical miles or 390 Statute miles, with in air times of up to 2 hours 45 min. This aircraft can carry up to 2 patients and 4 med crew, and is also IABP and Isolette capable. Other features include GPS tracking and Night Vision.
Operating out of DuPage County Airport. Licensed in Illinois and Indiana. We will be providing inter-facility transport services to healthcare facilities in the current Superior service area.

Ann has been a registered nurse since 1983. As a Flight Nurse and Chief Flight Nurse she has flown many inter-facility and accident scene response missions while being responsible for crew management and education. Other highlights of her nursing experience include adult and pediatric SHU, ICU, ER and cardiac cath lab. As an advance practice nurse she has worked as a clinical specialist in cardiology and nephrology.
Assistant Manager of Flight Operations Michael McDowell
Mike has 26 years of healthcare experience beginning as a paramedic, in 1998 he graduated from the nursing program at USC. His primary area of practice has been ER, ICU and nurse manager. Since joining Superior Ambulance Mike has worked as a Critical Care Transport Nurse.
